Wondering if you're eligible for the First Home Owner's Grant?
Firstly, what is the First Home Owner’s Grant (FHOG)?
Well, it’s a once-off payment of up to $15,000 that is available to first home owners when they either purchase or construct a new home.
What does that mean?
If you are planning to build a brand new home for the first time and haven’t previously owned a property then you are most likely eligible for the grant. As well as if you are purchasing a home for the first time that was built after 30th June 2014 you may also be eligible.
Are there other factors that affect your eligibility?
Yes! You must be 18 years or over and an Australian citizen or permanent resident. You must also occupy the house for a continuous period of at least 6 months within the first year of the purchase. This means you need to move into the home within the first 12 months of the transaction and you must live there for at least 6 months continuously. To receive the FHOG the value of the property has been capped at $575,000, therefore if your property is less you could also be eligible.
